THE STORY

Caesares; in Greek: Καῖσαρ Kaîsar) is a title of imperial character. It derives from the cognomen of the Roman dictator Julius Caesar.

It was not until 44 BC that the portrait of a living person—Julius Caesar—appeared on coins. Thereafter, profile portraits of rulers or other members of the imperial family became the standard subject on coins throughout the Roman Empire. Inscriptions on coins help identify the ruler.

Caesar stands as a historically significant figure from world history because he led many successful military campaigns, and spread Roman culture, knowledge, and traditions throughout the world. He also arguably made the life of everyday Roman citizens better by instituting various reforms for their benefit.
